Income tax officers carried searches on the properties owned by senior DMK chief and Tamil Nadu candidate EV Velu for the second consecutive day on Friday. The searches, Income tax officers stated, have been based mostly on “credible inputs of cash movement” in the course of the marketing campaign for the April 6 state election. 

At least 3.5 crore in money have been seized from the properties belonging to the politician to date, officers stated.

Separate searches have been additionally carried out in Karur district throughout which Rs 5 crore was seized, officers stated. The raids have been carried out at premises of six financiers there based mostly on the knowledge on money motion, officers added.

On Thursday, Income tax officers carried out searches at over 10 areas together with EV Velu’s dwelling in Tiruvannamalai, his constituency. The 70-year-old is looking for re-election from the constituency.
