New Delhi:

The Delhi authorities has issued a normal working process (SoP) for the safety of inter-faith and inter-caste {couples} from harassment and threats and directed organising of “special cells”, headed by deputy commissioners of police, to look into such issues.

According to the SOP, the federal government will present lodging in its “safe house” to these {couples} whose relationship is being opposed by their households or the area people or khaps.

The authorities mentioned the prevailing 181 toll-free ladies helpline of the Delhi Commission for Women will function a round the clock helpline to obtain from inter-faith and inter-caste married {couples} complaints of risk and harassment and supply needed help.

“The telecallers trained to handle distress calls and already aware about available services can provide necessary assistance/advice to the couple in distress. If required, they can be further trained to handle such calls,” said the SOP issued by the social welfare division.

It said that after listening to the couple, the DCP of the realm involved, who will carry out as head of the “special cell”, will carry the whole information to the data of the district Justice of the Peace and convey their requirement for keep in “safe house”.

Earlier this week, violence had erupted at southeast Delhi’s Harijan Basti in an alleged reference to an inter-faith marriage. The Delhi Police has arrested a number of individuals for his or her alleged involvement within the incident.

“Adequate security shall be provided to the couple in form of PSO (protective service officer) and the ”safe house” will also be secured by the DCP of the area concerned.

“The couple shall be briefed concerning the risk to them and in no case they be uncovered until the problem is resolved,” the department said in SOP.

In case the couple doesn’t want to stay in the “protected home”, the special cell will provide protection to them in accordance with the threat perception at their place of stay.

If a preliminary enquiry ascertains the authenticity of threats, the DCP concerned will direct an ACP or sub-division police officer to register an FIR against those threatening the couple.

According to the social welfare department, the government has established a “Safe House” at a state-run residential space in north Delhi’s Kingsway Camp which might accommodate a most of three {couples}.
